Course details:
The Virtual Earn-A-Bike Program consists of three online “classes” presenting information on bicycle anatomy, tool safety, a bike’s mechanical systems, and road safety. These classes are made up of interactive elements which students can work through at their own pace. Please note that this is not a live class. As with all BICAS’ youth programs, the Virtual Earn-a-Bike Program is open to youth ages 8-18. When registering your child, you may select if you would like for them to earn a bicycle if they do not already have one at home that fits them. Each class has a corresponding quiz, which will help us assess each student’s engagement with the online content. Once all three quizzes are successfully completed, we will make arrangements with each student who expressed the need for a bicycle to pick up a bike from our shop, following COVID-safe social-distancing and masking guidelines. Please be aware that students will receive their bicycles after the course end date, even if they complete the coursework early. Youth who do not need a bicycle are also welcome to work through the program to learn more about how bikes work, or just for fun! Youth residing outside Tucson/Southern Arizona are welcome to take the course; however, they will not be eligible for the bicycle and accessories. BICAS Youth Programs would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Charlies Freewheels in Toronto for lending us invaluable support in the creation of this program, which is closely-modeled after their own “Learn-a-Bike” course. BICAS and hundreds of other community bike shops participate in the Bike Collective Network, which supports knowledge-sharing between community bike projects all across across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Please see links below to register for a class session:
