Why volunteer with BICAS? The demand for BICAS' services has grown over the last few years and our organization needs your help to meet the community's need. You don't have to have any bicycle mechanical knowledge to help BICAS, but there is always the opportunity to learn more about bikes along the way.

What will I be doing as a volunteer? There are many opportunities to volunteer for BICAS and we can put to use many different skills. Take a look at this list below to get an idea of what kind of work we do regularly and where we will need your help:

  • Tabling/Outreach Events: join our information table at one of the many community events we attend annually. These events tend to be occur in the fall and spring and are an effective way to tell people across Tucson about who we are and what we do. Plus the are a lot of fun!
  • Mobile Bicycle Repair at events (basic bike maintenance skills required): At all of our tabling events we offer free, light bicycle repair and always need people to help fix up bikes. Usually we see a lot of kids bikes which are easy to work on and a great way to become more familiar with bike repair. We'll teach you how to do this!
  • Photographing/Video Documenting events: Do you have audio, visual recording experience? We always need help photo-documenting our events and are happy to credit and link to your work if you are a professional.
  • Teacher Aide, Build-A-Bike Classes or Basic Maintenance Workshops: This is a great way to learn more about bicycle repair and maintenance and spend some time becoming familiar with our services and space at BICAS.
  • Administrative assistance: BICAS is growing and with it comes more paperwork to sort, communications to write, and people to thank. Helping out in our office will put to work a variety of skills and offer you an opportunity to help keep our operations running smoothly.
  • Pick up bike donations (requires access to a car): People across Tucson call us with donations and many of them don't have access to a car to make the delivery to BICAS themselves. It is our goal to save any bicycle or part from the landfill and we need your help and time picking up those donations.
  • Organize a Bike Drive: Organizing a bike drive is a great group activity that has potential to reach a large audience in Tucson. We have a special information packet, including door hangers and detailed instructions for making a bike drive a success in your neighborhood.
  • Flyering, help spread the word about events: BICAS hosts many fun, community events throughout the year and even with all the benefits of social media, we still need help spreading the word at coffee shops, schools, and community centers across town.
  • Become a Greeter downstairs at BICAS: We are looking for some friendly folks to volunteer as Greeters at BICAS. As people come in the shop, simply introduce yourself, welcome them to the shop, help them sign in, find out what they need and direct them to the right place (which we will train you on), and a little friendly goodbye to finish. That's it. Nothing crazy. You don't even have to be mechanical, in fact we prefer if you weren't - we have shop mechanics to handle all that.
