Media Statistics
We try to keep track of references in the public media. The references themselves are listed on our media page. Below are statistics by year on the number of references by topic, as well as the number of references (any topic) by publication.
This data should be taken with a grain of salt. For one thing, there may be references we don't know about. For another thing, the decision whether a reference is a major reference, a minor mention, or about an inspired project is quite subjective; furthermore, routine listings of BICAS in weekly events calendars are mostly not included. Nonetheless, this data gives us an idea of which years had more "buzz". For example, the bar chart indicates 2006 to be a buzzy year on sheer numbers, and the pie charts indicate 2006 and 2007 to be good years in terms of broad representation across multiple media outlets.
